Grand Shanghai Food Theme Park which has opened its door earlier this year has been ushering people from all walks of life who are keen to journey back in time circa the mid 30′s street of Shanghai filled with antique cars, trishaws, old wooden benches, lamp posts and Chinese music from the bygone years. The food court, or more aptly termed as ‘food theme park’ was designed in such a way that it resembles closely to a large vintage movie set depicting China back in the old days. Among all the tenants in this park, Elizabeth Dining stood out like a white sheep in a herd of black. The interior decoration boast a Victorian era theme with bright chandeliers, hand painted cutleries and lush upholster furnitures which stood peculiarly odd with the rest of the eateries there.

Initially known as Elizabeth Fine Dining, the name was recently tweaked to portray a more casual like atmosphere rather than giving the impression of an up class establishment that is restricted to customers who have to dress appropriately for the environment. Even the food prices are kept to a very affordable level which again aims to cater to a larger group of audience.

Creativity certainly took the centre stage for their upcoming menu with fresh offerings introduced by their newly recruited head chef, Chef Azrin. The Garden Green Salad with Honey Herbs Dressing (RM 15.00) is a testament of Chef Azrin’s inventiveness with the use of thyme, rosemary, garlic and honey for the dressing thus giving it a different flavour.

Feta cheese were added to give the salad a rather strong and creamy flavour.

The Seafood Chowder (RM 15.00) has a thick creamy texture which also boasts a flavorful and rich taste. The inclusion of crusty bread crumbs was a nice touch that complimented the hearty soup.

Coated with bread crumbs, the Breaded Chicken Maryland with Black Pepper Sauce (RM 25.00) has a crispy outer texture that was good enough to be eaten on its own. The black pepper sauce was a tad bit heavy for my preference but it does add more dimension to the flavour for the dish.

Chef Azrin also chose to blend real oranges with fresh orange juice for the sauce to accompany the Pan-Fried Salmon with Tangy Orange Sauce (RM 33.00). The result was an uncanny mix of the mild fish flavour from the pan fried salmon with sweet tangy sauce.

Chef Azrin also explained about the two-step cooking process for the Chargrilled Chicken Leg with Au Jus (RM 23.00). The chicken has to be grilled first before putting it into an oven to bake. He also mentioned that the meat was pre-marinated with herbs such as thyme, oregano and black pepper.

The great ambiance at Elizabeth Dining certainly took the limelight and will please those who are seeking to enjoy western fares with a classy setting. I was told that there will be more new items coming up in their new menu soon as the management is in the midst of transitioning the outlet into a more mid-class restaurant.
