Grinding out a slew of scrumptious burgers (and hot dog!), The Grind Burger Bar is the place to visit if you are looking for meaty goodness in a bun. The one-year old burger joint which is located on the same row as Kanna Curry House has certainly put on their thinking cap and came out with a menu that offers not only classic and house burgers but also starters, side dishes and desserts thrown into the mix. Apart from its crowd pleasing menu, there was a compelling vibe upon stepping into this joint with its red painted brick walls and wooden tables setting up an inviting atmosphere together with a few vintage hand painted posters hanging on the wall.
The Kinoko Gohanburger (RM 19.00 – pork / RM 21.00 – beef) was presented in an unusual manner with a piece of seaweed resting on top of the homestyle rice patties made from short grained rice. I was told that the inspiration for this burger came about when the owners, who are rice lovers turned their fervour into a form of rice burger. The flavour was certainly good with the spread of special miso sauce on the beef patty giving the burger a flavourful and aromatic taste. In fact, it was pretty addictive and will please just about any Japanese food lovers craving for a fusionised sushi in a burger form. The accompanied wasabi sauce provided a kick for those who like to have a little more ‘zing’ in their burger.
The closest that I ever get to taste the real Swedish Meatballs was at Ikea but that doesn’t really count as genuine Swedish meatballs have a combination of ground beef with pork. Hence, it was assuring to learn that The Grind Burger Bar serves Swedish Meatballs (RM 20.00) that are made from 50:50 pork and beef. The juicy meatballs were smothered in a creamy in-house brown sauce that has a distinct flavour. Dipping the meatballs into the the accompanied lingonberry jam yielded a sweeter cranberry-like flavour for the meat.
Serving hotdog in a burger bar may seem contradictory but the Big Black Dog (RM 17.00) sits comfortably together with the rest of the offerings in their burger-centric menu. Apart from its playful name, using pork bratwurst served on a pitch black bamboo charcoal bun and topped with chilli pork was indeed a porky treat for those looking for something different. The bread was sponge-like soft while the thick bratwurst coated with cheese and fresh onions was delicious.
The Grind House Burger (RM 21.00 – pork / RM 23.00 – beef) came fully loaded with an assortment of ingredients such as the crowd pleasing bacon, fried egg, caramelised onions, natural cheddar, crispy lettuce, onion slivers, fresh tomatoes and signature mayonnaise. With a burger of such immense size, eating would be a messy but pleasing affair as the ingredients are bound to fall off from the buns. The beef patty which is from the Australian grain-fed variant was juicy with ample seasoning to compliment the rest of the elements in the burger.
With great food at a reasonable price, it is easy to see why The Grind Burger Bar has been alluded for by many burger lovers. Coupled with its nice ambiance and pork offerings, this is certainly one burger joint that shouldn’t be missed out.
